SACONO NATIONAL GENERAL COUNCIL HELD AT MOLOBANE LODGE ZUURBEKOM

               

ON THE 14TH -15TH august 2015

 

               ORGANIZATIONAL REPORT: TINTSWALO MAKHUBELE

 

 

  1. INTRODUCTION

The 9 provinces of South Africa gathered in the evening of the 14th August 2012 Gauteng province was a pioneer in mobilization  to transform the biggest industry of the NPO sector, this was the last turning point and a new organization SACONO South African Congress of Nonprofit Organization was formed, they came from all walks of the bleeding communities i.e. religious background, health, OVC, people with disabilities, children, early childhood development, women and youth sector, education and senior citizen. This came as the alternative to liberate our communities from hunger and poverty this industry is still marginalized we have to work hard to set the trend

SACONO must be the “Voice of the Voiceless” and close the vacuum between government and communities , assist in  implement policy and strategy aligned to their day to day activities per geographic spread, NPO as a collective must align the mobilization strategy to the communications and resource mobilization strategy in order to function properly per sector and facilitates the implementation of the programmes with a view to influence the development agenda, to promote civil society outreach and to mobilize civil society  support.

SACONO must work in close collaboration with the Programme and Operations teams within government in deferent department to streamline the role definition and increase business opportunities. Maintains network of NPOs across the nation, and internal affairs in mobilizing resources in the form of funds or human capital.

  1. KEY OBJECTIVES SACONO
  1.  NPOs must  Plan and design strategies for  outreach programmes and sustain the existing ones
  1. Creation and promotion of campaigns of different programmes/ sectors based on current programme and new initiatives.
  2. Management, promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives
  3. Creation, promotion and maintenance present database of funded and non- funded NPOs and programmes 
  4. Identification and development  of Gender issues, children, youth and women
  5. Coordination and management of all  programme activities, including special events and charities
  6. Strengthen 10point plan and resolutions of the Birchwood conference
  7. Strengthen leadership of the rural NPOs through capacity programmes

EXCO TASKS

Set up regional and provincial conferences

Legal registration- with DSD Structures formed by member organisation

 

 

 

The provincial conferences were not successful, SACONO was a new organization without funds, travelling was difficult. Only Gauteng managed to launch the Gauteng Chapter and form regional structures, forged a good relationship with the MEC, Premier, Mayors and other stakeholders. It is the only province funded by Social Development Gauteng since 2014.

Finalize legal Identity

 

SACONO is a registered entity with Social development with a draft constitution that needs review

Membership Registration

 

Have membership forms and members first registered with R300 and later reduced to R150

Set up EXCO Provincial structures towards national conference

 

Provincial structures were set up  but not functional only Gauteng , KZN and Free State remained active

Introduce SACONO to DSD

SACONO was introduced to the minister Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini where she formed a ministerial Task Team to review the Birchwood report and to draft an action plan to implement the resolution of the Birchwood conference

National EXCO

Exco was active for a year and later it was difficult to meet as a collective .Secretary General and President Phyllis Malope continued with the SACONO national agenda. They forged relationship with The Gauteng legislature, GEP, UNISA, LOTTO, Productivity SA, SAPS and Home affairs

International Relations work

SACONO has partnered with DIRCO to mobilize the African regions, PAWO- Pan African Women Organization. Members of WAF- Women Advancement Forum in Africa

SACONO has been formed to emancipate the NPO sector funded and non-funded NPOs assist with transformation programmes. I wish this conference will deliberate on all programmatic issues to sustain our democratic achievements
